Tour Description

In this tour of 2 days / 1 night you will be able to know the most important attractions of Copacabana and surroundings. Copacabana´s population stands out for being a cultural historical center in Bolivia where the famous Basilica of Copacabana and El Mirador del Calvario are located among others, also it is the access point to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, where you can visit the two most important islands in this lake, one is the Island of the Sun, cradle of the Inca culture, and the Island of the Moon, which symbolizes the feminine side of these cultures

DAY 1: LA PAZ / COPACABANA / ISLA DE LA LUNA (MOON ISLAND) / ISLA DEL SOL –SUN ISLAND (SOUTH SIDE)

ITINERARY DAY 1

Concentration in the bus station of the city of “La Paz” to leave in tourist transport (shared), by paved road to the town of “Copacabana” located approximately 4 hours away. During the journey you will be able to appreciate various altiplanic landscapes of singular beauty, among which the imposing and unique “Lago Titicaca”- Lake Titicaca.  Once in “Copacabana” the guide will be waiting for you to take you to the port, from where we will leave for the “Isla de la Luna” – Moon Island, located 30 minutes away. It is the second sacred island of the Incas. Here you will find the “Palacio de las Virgenes”Palace of the Virgins or House of the Chosen Virgins of the Sun, where they learned various trades such as weaving and art, so that they could be chosen as the Inca’s concubines. After this we will go to the Isla del Sol – (Sun Island) where we will enjoy an Andean lunch (Apthapi).

 

The rest of the afternoon we will visit the attractions of the southern part of the Isla del Sol – (Sun Island), among which the Archaeological Remains of the “Palacio de Pilcokaina”Pilkokaina Palace stand out. These consist of rooms entirely built of uncarved stone and the “Escalinatas de Yumani”-  Yumani Stairs through which you can make a 60-meter ascent from the shore of the Sacred Lake. Finally, you will be able to appreciate a beautiful fountain built with canted stone to which three streams of water converge and which is currently called the “Fuente del Inca” – Fountain of the Inca.

 

Once the visit is over, we will start our hike to our lodging for approximately 1 hour, where we will spend the night. Dinner is not included.

DAY 2: ISLA DEL SOL – SUN ISLAND (SOUTH SIDE) / COPACABANA / LA PAZ

ITINERARY DAY 2

After breakfast we leave our lodging to go to the port from where we will return to “Copacabana”. Free lunch in “Copacabana”. In the afternoon we will visit the viewpoint of the Cerro Calvario of Copacabana which is a tourist attraction throughout the year for being an excellent natural viewpoint from which you can see the splendor of “Lago Titicaca” –  Lake Titicaca and the population of Copacabana.

 

After this we will visit the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de Copacabana, or Temple of Copacabana, is a Renaissance style building, which was built in 1550 and rebuilt between 1610 and 1651, with some of the structures that are preserved today. It houses a sculpture of the famous “Virgen de la Candelaria (Candelaria Virgin) or Virgen Morena”, the crowned Queen of Bolivia, carved around 1580 by the indigenous artist Francisco Tito Yupanqui, grandson of the Inca Túpac Yupanqui.

 

At approximately 18:00 we will take our bus to return to “La Paz”. We will leave by asphalt road to the city of La Paz at approximately 23:00, arriving at the General Cemetery Station.

ABOUT THE WEATHER

The weather in Copacabana is variable throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 19°C, being the best time to travel from April to December due to the absence of rain.

ABOUT THE ALTITUDE

Lake Titicaca is at an altitude of 3812 masl. At some points of the route we can reach 4000 masl.

ABOUT YOUR HEALTH
